First Annual Tallahassee Ice Bowl - February 19th, 2005

by icebowlTD 1. January 2005 01:21

Tallahassee is running it's first annual Ice Bowl tournament on February 19th, 2005.

Started in 1987 in Columbia, Missouri, the Ice Bowl originated as an impetus for the sport of disc golf during the harsh northern winter months. Every year since then, more and more Ice Bowl tournaments are popping up worldwide. In 2004 there were 130 reported events with a total of 6,561 players.

Since 1996, fundraising for local charities (particularly food banks) has become a fundamental part of the annual Ice Bowl tournaments. During Ice Bowl 2004, over $86,887 in funds and 17,489 lbs of food were donated to charities around the world in the name of disc golf. This year, the goal is to raise over $100,000 for charity. The official Ice Bowl corridor for the 2005 tournaments is January 8 to February 21. We've slated the First Annual Tallahassee Ice Bowl to be held on February 19th at Tom Brown Park in Tallahassee, FL.
